Our local Asian partner wanted to add microbetting to their sportsbook. Though our Overlay product was still in development, we committed to a joint effort to bring their vision to life. Rather than waiting for a finished product, we collaborated from day one, addressing key questions like whether the Overlay could integrate seamlessly into their platform.
Overlay: An Innovative Approach
Overlay is a groundbreaking solution designed to layer on top of an existing sportsbook without interrupting its core functionality. Using advanced matching algorithms, the Overlay introduced a new betting layer that enhanced Partner’s offering.
While it was innovative, there were early challenges:

- A completely new UX in navigation and Discovery might not reason well with the audience.

- Ready-made builders was very much a niche product in Asia (we didn’t offer single micro markets then, and we agreed that single markets in a single context might be too much of overlap and could potentially confuse players)

- The absence of localization, e.g. Asian handicaps, and Asian odds in general, critical for their target market.
We didn’t see these challenges as setbacks—they fueled our drive to create a better, tailored product.
Testing the Players first – will the early adopters get it even without the local flavor?
We agreed with partner that if the players engaged with the UX we would complete with the full localization. Maybe on odd order of prioritized sequences but it was the most efficient decision there and then. We agreed we wanted to get there quickly, to tick the boxes, and then to move on with further explorations of products and projects.
Tailoring the Product for Success
After getting the matching algorithm and services to work, adding localizations, and fine tuning interactions and UX/UI in the actual App we saw Acquisition and Retention KPI’s moving upward steadily.
We are proud of what we achieved together:

- Improvement of the matching algorithm from 40% to 97%.

- Upcoming replacement of bet builders with singles betting.

Since the launch of our Overlay feature, we’ve seen exceptional growth in player engagement. User interactions with the betting button have skyrocketed by an incredible 1500%, while weekly unique players have surged by 500%. This remarkable progress has been achieved while catering to a relatively niche betting style in the Asian market, showcasing the strength of our bespoke solutions.
Looking ahead, we are excited about the upcoming launch of our micro-market singles, which will complement our highly successful HotBets offering. We expect these additions to drive further increases in user engagement and activity, building on the momentum we’ve already created.
